Maps -- we love ‘em. As a traveller, I’m often tempted to visit new destinations armed only with a torn-out copy of a map with some scribbled notes. If I know which way’s north, everything else falls into place.

These days, technology can let us enjoy maps in ways we never dreamed of a few years ago. Interactive maps, populated with rich data and multimedia, can help take our travels to the next level.

A few weeks ago, our digital map guru, Ken Hoetmer, spoke at the Where 2.0 conference in San Jose, California. He provided some insights into how Lonely Planet is working with partners to let users play with geography in cool new ways. If you love maps, you gotta see this:
