Best of the week: 31 July

What an artsy week.

Maybe it’s the long, long summer days (or cold winter nights, if you’re in the Southern Hemisphere), but users of lonelyplanet.com were in an artistic frame of mind this week.

You started off nostalgically, reminiscing about Southeast Asia in the 1970s (’Take the old stean train between Padang and Bikkitinggi [sic] while you can,’ we remember).

Despite the wintry New Zealand weather, you lapped up Mike’s description of alternative walks in New Zealand (that Milford Track sure does sell out fast!).

Then the art began in earnest. We treated you to a sneak preview of Seoul’s walking tours, courtesy of author Simon Richmond. We then followed that up with a smashing post from blogger everthenomad on New York street art.

The week rounded out with Sam Wilson’s list of top 10 South American books – an ensemble that you certainly had strong opinions on!

Vietnam - the stuff of your dreams

What about our guidebooks? It was a fantastic week for Southeast Asia, as the list was topped by our superstar Vietnam and Thailand guides.

Thanks for another great week. On a personal note, I’m eagerly awaiting the birth of our first child, so I’ll probably be disappearing for a few weeks. Don’t too anything too silly while I’m away.

Happy travels!
